Modest
Wedding Dress
A modest wedding
dress can be difficult to find if you don’t know where to
look. Strapless gowns, that are fitted with low backs are
not everyone’s idea of a dream but they are
unfortunately, these are the dresses on the front of
magazines and filling store fronts. Modest is also not
what it used to be- you can find plenty of beautiful
gowns that are stylish while making you feel comfortable
on one of the most important days of your
life.
The Right
Cut
As you set out on
your shopping trip for a modest wedding dress, keep in
mind A-line gowns or empress waist gowns. These are some
of the most forgiving styles as well as being commonly
available from designers. Starting your session with a
sales person by knowing you want an A-line or empress
waist will help the staff start the modest wedding dress
selection process. The cut for an A-line is often fitted
on top and flows outwards beginning at the waist, loosely
the shape of an ‘A’. An empress waist is typically banded
just below the bust line, flowing freely and generally
not form fitting at all.
The Right
Sleeves
Everywhere you
look in a wedding magazine, the gowns are either
strapless, halters or tiny thin spaghetti straps. If this
just is not your style, you should consider other options
for a modest wedding dress, such as cap sleeves, off the
shoulder, short sleeves or even long sleeves depending on
the time of year for your ceremony. If you fall in love
with a strapless gown you can check with a seamstress and
see if it can be altered to accommodate an option such as
an off the shoulder or cap sleeve. This is much easier to
do when revising the construction of a dress than taking
sleeves off and creating a strapless gown believe it or
not.
The Right
Color
If you are looking
for a modest wedding gown, it does not necessarily mean
you have to purchase a traditional wedding gown. If you
are looking want a modest look, you are likely not
interested in flamboyant reds or a daring black silk and
lace number, but it does not mean you have to choose a
traditional white. Eggshell, ivory or even tea rose pink
are options that you may want to consider for a modest
wedding dress.
When You Just
Cannot Find the Right
Anything
After you have
exhausted all the bridal shops and you still came out
without a modest wedding dress, you still have some
options. A good seamstress can do wonders for a neckline
that just is not comfortable for you without an extensive
amount of work. For example, a gown that fits too low can
have some gathered tulle sewn across the top of the
bodice. Consult with a professional seamstress for dress
options.
Being comfortable is the most important
thing on your wedding day. If you wish to find a modest
wedding dress,
you should keep in mind
your personal taste can still be elegant and beautiful
without being revealing or feeling inappropriate. While
you may have to look a little harder than the average
bride, the end result will be worth
it.
If you are having a tropical
wedding then you may opt for an informal beach
wedding dress.
