What is a Wedding Planner?

Wedding planner, wedding consultant, bridal consultant - they all mean the same thing. They are all terms to describe a person you hire to take the stress out of the wedding and do the organising you can't or don't want to do!  Although many people now don't want to get married there are still many couple who want the union of marraige for their relationship, and they are not a minority.  Many people don't have the time for all the preperations that go into organising a wedding due to work commitments, so they hire a wedding planner to do the job for them. The wedding consultant guides the couple through the arrangements to ensure the day goes exactly how the couple want it to without them worrying about booking or arranging anything.

The responsibilities of the wedding planner: The wedding planners responsibility is to be many things for the bride and groom.  They need to be the one who manages funds, the idea creator and artisan, aswell as a moderator.  There responsibility is to take the pressure and responsibility away from the bride and groom.  Anyone who has been closly involved with a wedding will understand the pressure that is involved with setting up and organizing a wedding.

When hiring a wedding planner a recommendation can go along way.  If you are lucky enough to have a wedding planner recommended to you then you will be fairly confident about the choice but you still need to ensure the wedding planner is right for your wedding.      Your wedding planner should be able to be a spokesperson for the bride and groom so must understand what you want for the wedding.  The wedding planner must be able to cope with all eventualities and keep a cool head on the day.  A wedding planner should be capable of getting the couple the best service for the best possible price.  In addition, they must know the area where the wedding is to be held and have good connections in the industry.  A wedding planner must be proficient at managing funds and in addition, must be organized properly. A wedding planner should have a good judgment of styles. He or she should be familiar with flowers, music and color combinations. A fine understanding of religions is also very important because a wedding ceremony is basically a sacrament. Connected to this, is the understanding of ethnicity and rituals. 

How much will you spend when hiring a wedding planner?The most common fee structure is 10 to 20% of the wedding expenses.  This is the normal arrangement when your having an elaborate wedding with a big budget.   When it is just a small affair the wedding planner many quote a fixed fee for a number of hours to be spent arranging the wedding.
