Fall Wedding Flowers

The days are long gone when fall wedding flowers meant you would have to have dull blooms with unappealing colors nowhere close to your ideal palette. Many popular and trendy varieties are available that speak of the warm autumn colors including shades of wine, cranberry, deep yellows and oranges. And even if you are looking to use pink, peach, apricots or lavenders, there are several varieties of fall wedding flowers to choose from.

Popular Varieties of Fall Wedding Flowers

The popularity of calla lilies has grown in recent years and with it has come new, commercially available colors making it a very versatile bouquet choice. Calla lilies have a mini version that are a frequent accent flower to bouquets or can be pulled together in a modern and creative looking bouquet with its unique cone-like shape. The larger variety of this flower can make an excellent single flower bouquet for your bridesmaids.

If you have your heart set on your fall wedding flowers being red roses, there are actually several additional color selections to choose from that shouldn’t be overlooked. The standard bright red rose we commonly associate with when thinking of red roses is of course beautiful, but it is also more readily available during the summer months. Ask your florist to see examples of deep red roses that have burgundy wine colored petals or black beauty roses that are so dark you have to decide if they are truly black or a deep shade of red. The dark reds capture the warmth of autumn and offer the classic elegance of a rose.

Colorful Fall Wedding Flowers

Fall flowers that can be great seasonal choices also include standard Gerber daisies, lilies and hydrangeas. These blossoms come in a wide assortment of colors and bloom sizes. Gerber daisies have a fun and sweet character to them and are a very hearty and generally cost efficient selection. A lily is elegant and less expected for a fall wedding flower and also has bloom sizes that can work for any bouquet. Hydrangeas also come in a great many colors with petals that can be used for decorative details or for the flower girl’s basket.

Nothing quite makes anyone feel the summer slip away then seeing a fully bloomed sunflower waving in the sunset. Warm, bright yellow and orange hued sunflowers range from the giant variety with blossoms ten inches or more in circumference or mini, elegant versions that are great focal pieces to your bouquet.

Autumn Whites

If you really wanted to carry a white bouquet, there are plenty of varieties that may be available locally or that can be ordered in such as the Bianca rose, white Gerber daisies and ivory calla lilies. Gardenia’s are a beautiful white blossom but are typically fragile and a little pricey. White delphiniums, peonies and sweet peas can be excellent choices as well.

A bride should have a general idea of her color palette prior to meeting with her florist. If you have a specific flower type in mind, be prepared to bend your palette a little, or change your flower type to accommodate your colors. Luckily if you are selecting fall wedding flowers, there are many varieties, styles and colors to choose from.

If you are on a tight budget then you may want to think about fake wedding flowers.
