If you’re a non-smoker living with a smoker, it can be very difficult. It can certainly cause various problems in your marriage. One of the most common is the nasty smell associated with smoking.
After your spouse smokes a cigarette, you probably won’t want to kiss until they do something about their breath. You’ll find that this will make it much more difficult to be intimate. The smell will be noticeable on the clothes and hair too.
Your spouse’s smoking habit can lead to health problems. You don’t want your partner to develop serious health concerns since you love him or her. You may also be concerned about your health too, since second-hand smoke can be hazardous.
If you want your partner to quit, then you should sit down and voice your concerns. It’s important that you not try to force your spouse to quit the habit. Quitting smoking can be very difficult, so you shouldn’t think your partner doesn’t love you because he or she hasn’t just quit at the drop of a hat.
You may want to suggest that your spouse start an exercise program. Exercising is a great way to relieve stress. He or she wouldn’t have to light up a cigarette as often to deal with stressful situations. Obviously, exercising will also have other positive health benefits too.
Another thing you can suggest to your partner is to slowly cut back on the number of cigarettes smoked each day. If they normally smoke 15, then try to limit the amount to ten or so. Offering to keep the cigarettes on you so they don’t have easy access is also a good idea. Your partner will certainly stop smoking so often if you did that.
Often, it’s best that you or your spouse seek support from somewhere in order to quit. Having friends and family members to provide support will help the process go along much more smoothly.
Make sure that you don’t try to pressure your spouse too much though. You can certainly make your concerns known, but don’t try to force things since it will only cause an argument. If you can’t work out a solution, then talking to a marriage counselor is a good first step.Doc No.lkhjsdklsd-ssj
