Is Your Life Shortened Due to Marital Strife?

Bad relationships can cause a lot of emotional damage. During a marriage, men only suffer emotionally whereas women may suffer both emotionally and physically. Women involved in an unhappy marriage have an increased risk of developing health issues such as excess belly fat and high blood pressure. Studies have been done which have proven that marital problems can lead women down the road to poor health.

Two common problems include metabolic syndrome and depression. Problems such as high blood pressure, high blood sugar, obesity, and many other conditions can be problematic thanks to metabolic syndrome. Males don’t have an increased risk of developing these conditions as tests have shown. People involved in these tests included those with religious views that caused them to stay married regardless of the situation. Many people in this group stated that they actually were unhappy in their marriages.

Women who are exposed to anger and hostility in their marriages have increased stress hormones. These hormones are a key factor in insulin resistance which leads to increased blood sugar levels. Heart attacks are also a common problem for women in stressful marriages. Therefore, the 27% of the women in the study who were remaining in bad marriages showed an increased level of stress hormones which could lead to the more serious issues.

Don’t think that you’ll necessarily be happier if you got a divorce though. Someone’s overall health is determined by many factors other than marital discord. For example, alcoholism that eating a bad diet will certainly affect someone as they get older. Compared to these other factors, marital discord isn’t such a huge problem.

These studies leave doctors with a major question though. Would it be best to treat the individual health conditions, such as the high blood pressure, or should they take more of a whole-person approach? Won’t the symptoms keep coming back if she stays in the bad marriage?

Some of the suggestions that have been made for alleviating this harmful stress is by seeking counseling, getting plenty of exercise, and learning how to delegate tasks to others rather than trying to do everythingDoc No.lsdhhsdlh-sdlkjhsgd
