Modern
Wedding Rings
The days of plain
gold wedding bands have made way for intricate,
customized, modern wedding rings that show a couple’s
style and taste. Couples are choosing their own designs
and selecting from many different and untraditional
metals, stone colors and jewel cuts. If you are wanting
modern wedding rings, knowing where to start and the
options you have besides what might be in the display
case are important things to consider before heading in
to the jeweler.
Metal
Choices
Using yellow gold
for wedding rings was once the standard. Today’s trends
for modern wedding rings generally center around the
silver family, with white gold, platinum or even
titanium. Titanium is particularly a popular selection
for men’s rings with it’s deep gray color that can be
shiny or matted similar to a nickel finish. White gold
can frequently be found in 9K, 14K and 18K, with 18K
being the best choice for every day wear. Some more
unique metal selections include tungsten carbide and
stainless steel. These metals typically have smaller
selections readily available but are great options for
customized rings.
Stone
Choices
Diamonds may
be a girl’s best friend, but they are showing up in men’s
wedding bands as well with
modern wedding rings. Brides
selecting from trendier rings are also choosing to forego
the clear white diamonds for colored diamonds, sapphires,
emeralds and other colored gemstones. Rings exclusively made
of colored gemstones or a combination of diamonds and
gemstones, are often less expensive than traditional diamond
wedding rings.
Stone
Shapes
Modern wedding
rings frequently use square, princess cut diamonds as
solitaires for engagement rings or encrusted across the
wedding band. Slivers of diamonds called baguettes are
also an option on both men’s and women’s modern wedding
rings. For wedding bands that are wrap arounds of an
engagement ring, using the same shape of stone typically
depicts the clean, streamlined style of modern
rings.
Designing
Your Own Modern Wedding Rings
If
you don’t see exactly what you want in the jewelers display
case, customized options may not be out of the question
depending on your jeweler’s services. Prices for customized
modern wedding rings will vary, but especially if there is a
design you like but a price you can’t afford, it may be
possible to use an alternate metal type or different stone type
to bring your ideal ring into your price
range.
Many couples now choose
unusual wedding rings
for an individual touch.
